I have used uwin for many years. Recently, when I enter the vi editor, it drops dead after only a
few characters entry. is this a uwin problem or a windows problem. My current windows is windows 7 pro. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how was it fixed?
Never had this problem because I have not used Windows in close to 20 years; and when I did "for a short time", it was because all employees where I was working at the time were forced to do so by the "laptop policy" of the company.
It's a known issue.
I'm afraid you are one of the last UWIN users still around there...
UWIN was cool a couple of decades ago but the momentum was toward cygwin to get similar features. Lately, WSL and WSL2 took the lead but sticking to Windows 7 prevents you to use the later ones.
UWIN has been dropped by AT&T, its source code was moved to github but there is zero activity there.
