Welcome. I started using UNIX in production in 1987 on trading systems, satellite platforms, and satcom controllers. By 1993, I deployed Slackware Linux v0.8 across the USAF, replacing all SMTP relays for Air Combat Command. I touched the early Internet backbone in 1988 and have been active in UNIX, Linux, and networking ever since.

My cybersecurity work has been published in Communications of the ACM (2000) and featured in Popular Science. I am credited with early formulations of Cyber Situational Awareness (CSA) and Network Security Situational Awareness (NSSA), based on peer-reviewed research that grew out of defending ACC from its first documented cyberattack.

I founded UNIX.COM long before Facebook, Twitter, or StackExchange. After decades in the field, I treat tech as a craft, not a contest. I still build systems, write Ruby/Rails code, and collaborate with modern AI tools when they speed the work.

Here to help and contribute. Enjoy the forum.
