So what now?

Hello again people, now i return with a dual-booting system =)
Soo... just installed suse overnight, and i have NO idea what to do next... Cold anyone help me? I want to set up KDE
Oh, was i supposed to say that at the beginning? oh well.. =P So any tips on where i can start?

I think SuSE has KDE installed by default (sorry I'm an ex-user of SuSE)?

Otherwise, if you have set up SuSE and can boot into it, log on as root and run "yast". You will be able to select the KDE packages to install.

Try typing

from the command line.... anything happen?

when you installed suse, what packages did you select? if all you have is a command line, type
'yast'

at the command line. and then from there go to the package manager and select the packages for kde. all dependencies will be checked automatically. install everything and you will be good to go from there.

If startx doesnt work, then you have to configure the X server, use the commands sax or sax2 to do this.

make sure you actually have installed Xf86.

yaay now its working i started fwmv thingy or whatever with startx, downloaded netscape, and downloaded kde3, so now its working. i have a question tho, ((i set linux to start kde when it starts up)) what should i do if it has some problems? if i do Ctrl+Alt+F2 then log in there then i cant edit x stuff cuz kde is using it. do i have to do Ctrl+Alt+F1 and Ctrl+C out of kde and then do the stuff w/ xfree? umm... i kinda just awnsered my own quiestion.... o well... :stuck_out_tongue:

You can force restart X windows by

Ctrl-Alt-Backspace

in X-Windows (should be virtual console 7 (ctrl-alt-f7))

Ctrl-C won't get you out of KDE. If things haven't changed, virtual console 1 on SuSE is also just another login terminal so there is nothing to do with X windows.
