Sad world and sadder times… Ian Anderson, Jethro Tull

4 January 2026

Hi – the real Ian Anderson here – as you would expect from our official website and associated social media.

It has come to our attention that fake fan websites and social media accounts are displaying AI-generated content purporting to be by me – whether lyrics, music or social commentary.

If you see this insidious, childish and dishonest material, please ignore it as it will not be genuine. If you haven’t read or seen it on our official social media platforms then it is most likely fake or, at best, copied and pasted from our legitimate sources.

Of course, this sort of abuse is not limited to me or Jethro Tull and doubtless many, many others in similar positions are having their public personae tampered with and faked for the amusement of the perpetrators or even financial gain in some cases. This is the tip of the iceberg in terms of a future where AI at its worst is accepted and tolerated in society. As the AI algorithms become more sophisticated, it will be harder and harder to spot the fakes and we will all be reduced to simply not trusting ANY source of information or entertainment.

Sad world and sadder times…

My thoughts on this....

Modern human life is increasingly mediated by machines that filter, rank, and reshape experience. Through search engines, social media, and now LLMs, sharp edges such as ambiguity, contradiction, and uncertainty are systematically smoothed away, leaving behind populist content that is statistically legible, emotionally resonant, and easy to consume. This de-evolutionary process reinforces existing beliefs and identities, inflating confidence while eroding genuine human intellect. Over time, profit-driven algorithmic output ceases to feel like a representation of society and instead becomes the reference reality itself, with anything outside it perceived as abnormal or extreme—like curve smoothing applied to the graph of popular culture.

The result is not overt control or coercion by machines, but voluntary enclosure and tribalism. People are comforted into environments that feel personalized, validating, and efficient, while their perception of reality is gradually shaped into a flattened, populist curve optimized for engagement, profit, and compliance. Most people are unaware this transformation is occurring because they can no longer reliably distinguish machine-generated content from original human thought. As the Matrix analogy suggests, the system’s power lies not in deception by force, but in its ability to make a constructed, profit-driven, de-evolutionary reality feel intelligent, natural, inevitable, and self-chosen.

Yes, as Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull concluded..... we are witnessing the downfall of human society served to us as advances in technology and "convienence".
