Policy notice: no private solicitations for work, paid or free

We want people to be able to participate freely in our community without being badgered about doing work for others ā€“ so we enforce our policy:

All solicitations for any kind of work, paid or free, must be in public in the #marketplace category

This is a part of our community guidelines and terms of service. Basically, follow these guidelines:

no_soliciting

The main concept that is very important here is asking in public in the correct category , and avoiding private solicitations.

If you are open to being directly contacted about unix or linux-related work opportunities, indicate that on your user profile with external contact information. We would prefer that this contact not occur here on meta, but it is OK if you have explicitly indicated you want to be contacted on your user profile , or of course in a public #marketplace post.

Moderator comments were removed during original forum migration.

Should this simply be not allowed since we have the LinkeIn group for that?

The LinkedIn group is used for posting asking for for employment, not project or gig work.

This marketplace is for people posting small project and gigs who are looking for others to do the work in a paid, small gig, to be discussed here.

See the example I posted here, which is very different than the LinkedIn group:

Anyway, I don't think many people will post small gigs requirements like this, so it's not a problem at all, I think; and this will be the first example of the correct way to post in the Marketplace
