Paste text to a new image using Gimp

I can not figure out how to paste text from a text program(Geany) into a blank Gimp image.

Copying the text into the buffer and doing every Paste option does not work.

I want to make an icon for the desktop that contains things I forget.

That way it will always be in front of me.

Why re-invent the wheel, install post-it notes app and use those on desktop?!?

Hey @drew77 ... try something like these steps:

To paste text from Geany (or any text editor) into a blank GIMP image, follow these steps:

1. Create a New Image in GIMP

• Open GIMP and go to File > New.

• Set your desired image dimensions (e.g., 512x512 pixels for an icon).

• Click OK to create a blank image.

2. Add a Text Layer in GIMP

• Select the Text Tool (T icon) from the toolbox or press T on your keyboard.

• Click anywhere in the blank image where you want the text to appear. This will create a text box.

• You can resize this box if you need more space.

3. Paste the Text from Geany into the Text Box

• Go to Geany and highlight the text you want to copy.

• Press Ctrl+C (or right-click > Copy) to copy the text to your clipboard.

• Go back to GIMP, click inside the text box, and press Ctrl+V to paste the text.

4. Adjust the Text Style and Position

• Once pasted, you can use the Text Tool Options (below the toolbox) to adjust font, size, color, alignment, etc.

• Move the text layer around by selecting the Move Tool (four-way arrow icon) to position it on the image.

5. Export the Image

• When you’re happy with the text placement, save the image.

• Go to File > Export As…, choose the format (e.g., PNG), and save it to your desktop for easy access.

Now, if lucky and the genAI gods are smiling upon you, you’ll have an image on your desktop that contains the text you want to keep in view!

Hi @stejamtro101, is there "post-it notes" for Ubuntu?

When I checked, I only found "post-it note style" apps for Ubuntu, like the following:

1.	Indicator Stickynotes
2.	Xpad
3.	GNOME Notes (Bijiben)
4.	KNotes
5.	Stickynote (using Conky)
6.	Notejot
7.	Sticky (Elementary OS app)
8.	Tomboy-ng
9.	Google Keep (Web-Based)

Which one of these are you recommending @stejamtro101 ? Or some other app entirely?

Any of the ones listed, if you use KDE, then KNotes but if Gnome I’ve heard good things about Sticky Notes :grinning:

UBUNTU uses Gnome.

Thanks for your help.
