The Discourse team is working on a new page loading slider to replace the spinner in many, but not all, page loads.
During this "experiment phase" I found the slider was a few pixels "too thin" on the desktop and, subjectively, a single pixel too thin on mobile". Hence, I forked the theme component for this reason and made the changes, running this live on this (our) site.
Then, I noticed (as well as others on meta) that there was an additional page animation which made the page fade in and fade out, during this transition, which was really distracting, especially when we reload the same page, so I commented out that "body transition" and that is what we are running now.

I think the new slider looks good "as is" but it is still a work-in-progress.
