Must Watch! Huge L for Crypto (FTX)

This is so good! Must watch!

I'm always impressed to see what people especially in the USA are ready to believe without emitting a single doubt on the subject, accepting so much garbage for granted, no wonder Donald has so much success there

great video, thks.

of course the reality is tragic. the '3.5b in poverty' mentioned by that heinous Kevin O'Leary just got a few new members :sob:
Look forwards seeing how this calamity pans out in the courts.

fyi, came across this piece covering same ...

another worthwhile chuckle vision perspective on this calamity

“From compromised systems integrity and faulty regulatory oversight abroad, to the concentration of control in the hands of a very small group of inexperienced, unsophisticated and potentially compromised individuals, this situation is unprecedented,” he wrote in the court filing."

And I just finished watching an FTX video myself. Check it out:

I think most people do not realize the following badges of fraud, or turn a blind eye to it:

  1. Fraudsters generally hide behind complex corporate structures, both on-shore and off-shore, to distance themselves from legal jeopardy. SBF obviously did this.

  2. Successful fraudsters generally launder their reputation by publicly contributing generously to charities, humanitarian and social causes. This is because the public will believe the fraudster is a "super great person" when they generously and publicly support charitable causes. SBF obviously did this.

The main problem here is that SBF cleverly did the two badges of fraud above and in doing so, created many admirers because he completely laundered his reputation in the public eye and media, as fraudsters generally do.

Finally, for anyone who has read my early posts on crypto-fraud, I have consistently tried to explain that all these types of financial frauds are like jumping on a train-to-heaven. Most everyone will jump on board a good or clever Ponzi or pyramid scheme when they can easily profit from it, until the scheme collapses. After the scheme collapses, those who remain invested on the train will divide into two main camps.

The first camp are those who will continue to believe in the fraudster in hope they can recover their funds. Currently, we can see that SBF is singing to this crowd in his public comments and trying to garner public sympathy.

The second camp are those who jump off the train-to-heaven they were riding like rats jumping off a sinking ship in order to launder their own reputations and/or try to recover their lost funds in the court systems.

For those who follow crypto-influences, we can easily see how most of the famous YT influencers who were singing SBF's praises and calling him a genius or a saint have now fully slammed their public opinions of SBF in reverse and are now calling for SBF's head.

Finally ...

Blockchain is a great technology with a huge potential; but as I have mentioned before in this category, the biggest enemy of blockchain is human greed and human nature.

Because SBF (1) has such powerful connections (both family, corporate, political and social) and, (2) more-than-likely, a huge amount of cash hidden away somewhere, stolen from his business ventures, it is unlikely SBF will be prosecuted in the US, but we shall see.

In the final analysis, everyone who rides these gravy trains, reveling the profits, bears some responsibility when the gravy train runs off the track. Most everyone loves a good financial scam as long as they are making money and riding the train. It's just human nature.

Cheers

Disclaimer

I own BTC indirectly via speculative investments in MSTR (MicroStrategy) held on regulated US stock exchanges. I do not own any other crypto on public exchanges except for BTC via the MSTR proxy (and more indirectly I hold BTC in a few ETFs who hold BTC in their portfolio, like TSLA, for example.). None of my posts here are meant to be financial advice. Everyone should do their own research before making investments. Personally, I never invest speculatively in more than I can afford to lose; and never , ever do I invest using leverage or margin. I do not speculate in altcoins, which makes me a "Bitcoin-maxi", I think

YAY!

SBF has been arrested in the Bahamas! I wish Do Kwon and other cryptofraudsters would be arrested but they are seemingly on-the-run in countries where the US does not have an extradition treaty.

London news item..........charges brought.......

Another London news item well worth a read................

And the first guilty pleas..... See attach SDNY indictment of Ellison and Wang, which was unsealed after SBF signed the order to extradite him to the US:

Here is to "hoping" that the magistrate judge in the SDNY does not grant SBF bail.

Deep Dive

when is $250 million not $250 million

In the US federal system, 10% of the bond is required.

  • $25,000,000 Required
  • $4,000,000 SBF's parents home value

  • $21,000,000 Unspecified private third party

I think the media is making too much about this bond (its a tempest in a teapot, as they say). SBF is not going to flee and cause his parents to lose their home with an ankle bracelet in home detention; plus he is in the US where he is readily recognized and SBF is not clever from a "street wise" perspective, otherwise he would not have domiciled FTX and Alameda in the Bahamas where they have an extradition treaty with the US.

My best guess he will plead guilty and work on a cooperation deal to try to get jail time as low as possible in a minimum security prison system where he is safe from hardened criminals and he can work on a book or his education, etc.

If he does not plead guilty, SBF is in for a very tough life in prison, so I'll be surprised if he is not working hard on a favorable plea deal at this time.
