Yes, that is one reason we recommend everyone put code in a block and not embed it in a line.
However, if it really bothers you, please post a bug report over at meta.discourse.org and see if they will modify their markdown implementation.
But I have a feeling they will not consider this a priority and so they will not fix it.
Maybe I'm wrong.
If anyone does decide to post this MD bug over at meta, please reply in this topic with the link to the bug report.
