Well, this is quite a question. I suppose the first thing I'd ask is: why would you want to do this ? Is this part of an academic project (i.e. you've been assigned the work of writing a basic operating system), or is there some very particular (not to mention highly unusual) task that you feel none of the currently-available operating systems would not be suitable for ? If so, what do you feel writing your own OS would enable you to accomplish that existing OS's do not ?
