Apology

I am sorry for my conduct.

(My doctor put me on some meds and they are making my hands shake a little and I am hyperactive. I have lowered the dosage.)

No worries @drew77 ..... Some of us practice more empathy than others, especially in public technical Q&A forums.

Here is what ChatGPT advises:

ChatGPT Prompt

A user in our forums: community.unix.com is not healthy and frustrated and so other forum users are also getting frustrated with him.

ChatGPT Reply

It sounds like this user might be dealing with personal challenges that are affecting their interactions on the forum, which can be difficult for both them and the community. Here are some suggestions for how to address the situation constructively:

  1. Encourage Empathy: Remind forum members that everyone has struggles, and while frustration is understandable, responding with kindness can help de-escalate the situation. A little patience can go a long way when someone is going through a hard time.

  2. Private Messaging: Consider reaching out to the user privately, acknowledging their frustrations and offering support or resources that could help them with their health. A personal message might feel less confrontational and more supportive.

  3. Set Clear Boundaries: If the user’s behavior is disrupting the forum, kindly remind them of the forum guidelines. You can empathize with their situation while also making it clear that certain behaviors are not acceptable.

  4. Offer Practical Help: If their health issues are somehow related to topics discussed in the forum, perhaps there are specific resources, advice, or personal experiences other users can share that might help.

  5. Moderation Tools: If the situation escalates and the user continues to create tension, use the forum’s moderation tools to guide the discussion back on track, while making sure the user feels heard.

These steps could balance both compassion and the need to maintain a positive community environment.

@drew77 , from Neo.....

I understand from your reply you may have some health issues. If you are under medications and have shaky hands and other neurological systems, you should be extra cautious in how you post in forums.

If you are not extra careful, your problems in posting will become others problems and this will create conflict, unintentionally.

If you are really feeling bad and need technical help, I suggest you use ChatGPT because ChatGPT, a bot with no human emotions and ego, will provide help without the burden of human misunderstandings.

Plus, you can also discuss your medical conditions with ChatGPT and that will be more private than discussing them in a public forum like this one.

Hope you feel better soon!

Neo

PS: I have been planning for a long time to create a new "Health & Fitness" forum category or subcategory; based in part on my successful personal fitness journey and excellent health based on a lifestyle focused on good nutrition, lot of exercise and quality sleep.

My wife joking told me last week she was going to stop feeding me salmon for breakfast daily because the Omega3s were making me overly clear headed and too smart! She is so funny, really! I am so blessed!

Thanks. Things are getting better.

Your wife has a good sense of humor.

I founded unix.com a very long time ago as one of the first "professionally moderated forums" back in the days where the "smart kids" would relentlessly bully the "less experienced" people.

True wisdom is not in how "smart" we can reply to technical questions; but it is in how much empathy and compassion we show to those who are suffering and frustrated with technical issues.

On the other hand, we do have boundaries and limits here in public forums; and you should not expect anyone to "read your mind".

For example, posting "it does not work", is not helpful to anyone.

You must take the time to describe in details your inputs to the system and output by the system to get good answers.

We are here to help you; but you must make it easier for people to help you, help yourself.

I will try to provide more info. But sometimes I do not why something did not work.

I will provide details on what I did.

In January I have an appt. with a Neurologist. Among other things he will be checking my cognitive ability.

Both my parents had dementia. I like to be proactive about my health.

What is an example of a cognitive weakness?

Examples of cognitive symptoms include: Problems remembering. Difficulty speaking. Difficulty understanding.

Some of my difficulty understanding was a result of my depression which is being successfully treated. My memory is better and my understanding as well.

Hi @drew77

As gently mentioned to you before; we accept your apology but you should also accept our forum rules and mission.

For your personal medical journey please discuss with ChatGPT, as I kindly advised you before.

This is a public forum for unix / linux technology, not a medical forum. ChatGPT 4o is very good and has personalization capabilities and is a much more private place to discuss personal medical problems and issues than a public tech forum.

Even the free ChatGPT service is very good.

Thanks!.
