Is it possible to install a solaris 10 flar image into a sparse zone?
The answer is no.
You can not install a sparse zone with a flar image. You can install from a flar to a full-root or brand zone though. In Solaris 11 they got rid of the spare-root zones, so you might as well stop using them..
If your trying to move your zone or sever to a new server, on to a zone that can be done.
I hope this helps
Thanks bitlord, I thought that might be the case. Its a server that was planned to be
virtualized and an app on it is only supported in a sparse zone.
what kind of hardware are you using?
Its an m5000.
I was happy to help.
Are you using a VM? If you are just install the app on the global zone, and install nothing else on it. You can also try the branded zone as well but I have never made used this kind of zone. Most of my experience is in full root zones.
Its not a VM, its a v490 running Solaris 9 that needs to be upgraded to Solaris 10 to support a new version of an app that only supports sparse zones in virtualisation.
Its going on to an m5000 with 4 full root zones already installed.
My only experience is with full root zones also..
