Windows on PowerPC4+

Hi All

Does anyone know how to install Windows on a PowerPC4+ system?
Is there any Virtual Machine that works on AIX or Linux OS with PPC hardware ?

Thank You

Hello,

at least vmware doesnt work. And I do not really believe you'll find any other that can cope with non-x86 hardware.

But - just for my curiosity - why would you want to do that anyway - if you need a slow pc (and this would be a very slow solution if you find one), why don't you simply buy a cheap box and run AIX on this one ?

Kind regards
zxmaus

Windows NT4 was also installable on PPC and Alpha etc. But not sure if you want such an old OS.

Really great! This is I need. thank all eveyone 4 shared !

Actually there is an emulator which can run most Windows software on AIX. It is called "bochs". Colleague shockneck tinkered with it for some time so probably he could expand on that matter bettre than i. As far as i remember he got several Windows programs to run, but never tried to run something fancy like games.

There is another emulator, "AS/U" (Advanced Server / Unix) from Bull Systems. It emulates a WindowsNT4 Server complete with a PDC in a task on AIX. I had to work with ("suffer from" would be the more correct term) this software once about 9 years ago. Not the fondest of my memories. In principle it is something like SAMBA, but emulates a complete NT4 Server (including the desktop) over the network.

There once was the plan to support Windows on different platforms (MIPS, ALPHA and PPC if i remember correctly), but Microsoft never delivered a working system on any other platform save for x86.

This was the reason Bulls AS/U was endorsed in the company i worked for back then: the invested heavily on IBMs hardware (F40 and J50) with the plan to run NT4 Server on these boxes. Only to find out Microsoft saying basically "we were just joking there, we will not deliver".

I hope this clears things up.

Hi You all

And thank you very very much for replying me. yes NT4 is supporting but I wanted to install Server 2003. Anyway I could managed to install Debian Linux on that PPC box and again QEMEU and yes I could installed Server 2003 on QEMEU, and it took nearly 2 days to install with 4 Power+ SMP CPUs and 8GB RAM.

Again there is no VMware version for PPC.

So I have to give it up.

Thank you all again for the invaluable help.
