VIO server on p520

trying to put VIO server software into this p520, firmware upgraded to the latest and greatest..SF240_415_318 , I think

a few questions, on this practice AIX machine on AIX 7.1

VIO can only be installed if ASMI or HMC is running ???
if so, perhaps ASMI is much simpler, since I will need to have a Linux runtime environment with all the HMC software installed and running..

I can't do VIO server without either ASMI or HMC..
This ASMI can be accessed if I could have the HMC1 port be a DHCP client getting an IP address 192.168.2.147 ..I need a browser running the URL in the same subnet using http://192.168.2.147

any comments ??

ASMI is the firmware interface (Advanced System Management Interface) and has noting to do with the ability to install VIO.

VIO or IVM will need a suitable licence, go here and see what options you have:
IBM Capacity on Demand: Activation code
Stick in your machine type, origin and serial...

I think you'll need a VET code to install IVM - no HMC, or VIOS - HMC also required.

HTH.

In P520 you can get PoweVM express for free.
Check first VET code in dukessd you have info how.

Here you have infor how to understand the code
IBM - How to tell which PowerVM Editions feature was ordered

PowerVM express license is allowing you to install one VIO server (IVM),
IVM is providing also Limited almost HMC services.

Here you have nice movies what to do:
