Upgrading to maintenance releases

I have several RS/6000 servers running Aix 5.2 maintenance release 1. I determined this by running oslevel -r. I would like to upgrade these servers to the most current release and wanted to know if there is anything besides backups and mksysb's that I should do before hand. I looked at the installation tips and everything seems straight forward. Is there any hardware issues that I should look into first? Meaning would I need to check if the machine I was upgrading is capable of running this new maintenance realease? Do I need to update the system firmware first?

Any feedback based on your experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks

Check out if there are any dependencies of the application software the machines are running. Database software (but not only they) tend to even specify an exact fixlevel of the OS under it.

You can find out the fixlevel by issuing 'instfix -i | grep AIX_ML' by the btw.
