UNIX for Windows?

Im a big nubie who is just getting into the UNIX/Linux world. I have heard of a version of UNIX that runs on windows, kinda like an Emulator. Anyone know where I can get it?

I just found this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/sfu/unixproresources/

which allowed me to order it for "free" rather than $99. The offer expired at the end of last year, but my order seems to have gone through. Note that "free" is relative.... I had to use a credit card which was billed $11.90.

You could also try knoppix, which is linux that runs completely off a bootable cd with no need to install.
Here's a link for more info: KNOPPIX - Live Linux Filesystem On CD

I'm confused... what does Knoppix have to do with the orignal posters question to run on Windows......???

We seem to have two good threads on this subject. If I merge the threads, they would comingle and we would lose the continuity. So in each thread I will post a cross link to the other.

UNIX emulators

Suggestion for kduffin - Summarize the links found in these threads and add them to the FAQ page that you moderate.

Nothing, now that I think about it. I assumed that poster wanted to run unix and still have windows on the computer. I guess that what I get for assuming. My bad! Still I was only trying to be helpful.
