Unable to take console

When trying to connect to console, I am getting the below error.

plathwsvcd: Another instance is running.
plathwsvcd: Another instance is running.
plathwsvcd: Another instance is running.
plathwsvcd: Another instance is running.
INIT: Id "plhw" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

It just keeps coming.:wall:

I tried searching in inittab for any misconfiguration, but there is no entry in /etc/inittab for plhw.

Can some-one please help. Thanks in advance.

Please post what Hardware make and model and what Operating System and version you are running.

Were you able to become the root user by another means?

Is this a sudden fault on a reliable system or a problem on a new system?

Please post the contents of /etc/inittab .

Quick check in memory to see if there are lots of processes for the same user or lots of the same process (or both):

ps -fuplhw
ps -ef|grep "plathwsvcd"

Just Googled plathwsvcd and got a lot of hits for this name and your symptoms related to firmware revisions on Sun hardware.

I checked for everything..the user plhw does not exist neither i can see process by name plath.

It is SPARC-Enterprise-T5220. This is a sudden fault. I remember it was working some days back.

And the contents of the inittab :

ap::sysinit:/sbin/autopush -f /etc/iu.ap
sp::sysinit:/sbin/soconfig -f /etc/sock2path
smf::sysinit:/lib/svc/bin/svc.startd    >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog </dev/console
p3:s1234:powerfail:/usr/sbin/shutdown -y -i5 -g0 >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog
pt:s1234:powerfail:/usr/lib/svc/method/installupdates lock

Recommend that you to take this up with Oracle (aka Sun) under your support contract with view to reviewing your firmware and software revision levels prior to engaging a hardware engineer.
