UltraSPARC T2 or T2+

Hi everyone

We've bought a Sun T5120 server recently.

I'm currently investigating how much would cost to license the server. According to Oracle's matrix T2 processors are calculated at 0.75 per core, but T2+ processors are calculated at 0.50 per core.

When I run prtdiag -v I get the following:

================================ Virtual CPUs ================================

If I had T2+ processors, would it show up as T2+ when I run prtdiag?

The T5120 is the T2 processor not the T2+.

UltraSPARC T1 processor based models

The UltraSPARC T1-based Sun Fire T1000 and T2000 are branded to the SPARC Enterprise line:

* T1000 - 1 processor socket, 1U rack-mount
* T2000 - 1 processor socket, 2U rack-mount

UltraSPARC T2 processor based models

In Oct 2007, Sun added the UltraSPARC T2-based servers to the SPARC Enterprise line:

* T5120 - 1 processor socket, 1U rack-mount
* T5220 - 1 processor socket, 2U rack-mount

UltraSPARC T2+ processor based models

In April 2008, Sun added the UltraSPARC T2 Plus-based servers to the SPARC Enterprise line:

* T5140 - 2 processor sockets, 1U rack-mount
* T5240 - 2 processor sockets, 2U rack-mount

In October 2008, Sun released the 4-way SMP UltraSPARC T2 Plus-based server:

* T5440 - 4 processor sockets, 4U rack-mount

Crikey, that's going to be expensive to licence then.

Thanks for the quick response.

if i understand oracle right, they are talking about CORES not VIRTUAL CPUs. and your machine should have 4 cores with 8 threads each = 32 virtual cpus...

UltraSPARC T2 and T2 Plus Processors

4 cores x 0.75 = 3 licences

The T1 processor, for example, is calculated at 0.25. This means it's going to cost us more to licence our 4 core T2 than it cost us to licence our 8 core T1
