Ultra 2 CDROM Problem

I have a Ultra 2 running solaris9, I'm trying to do a boot cdrom to install Solaris 10. During the boot, the system can't find the CDROM drive. It shows up during a probe-scsi-all. Also, when booted to Solaris 9 I place a CD in the drive it takes almost 10 minutes before the CD is readable on the system. I've check all connections for power and the SCSi cable. Is it a bad drive to something eles?

Thanks, Jim

hmmm, sounds like a dead CDROM drive.... check the error log for that device with the output of:

iostat -En

is your solaris 10 installation media in DVD or CD?

I'm looking at installing Solaris 10 cdrom CDROM. The problem is I can't get it to read any cd's including Sol 8.

solaris10 cd? which version of sol10 is this? afaik only sol10 fcs was available on cd. the newer versions are only available on dvd?!

that why I asked. Solaris 10 media is on DVD. There are solaris 10 on cdrom media but I think you have to cut it yourself.

So there you have it, nothing wrong with yur ultra2 cdrom.

Does the output of devalias match the output of probe-scsi-all?
In other words: does a boot cdrom really access the CD-ROM drive?
