Hi I have an Ubuntu 10.10 machine. I want to recover root password. I know it have to be done while booting but in boot shell.
I tried to do it but failed.
Please remedy my problem.
The machine does not keep passwords in a manner you can recover. You can only change it.
Boot into single-user mode again, mount -o remount,rw /, then passwd to change root's password.
