System LED flashing

hi guys,

i have 2 hp-ux servers at my office with flashing system LED.
am very new to hp-ux...no much of access directly to the server.

how can i check for faults relating to this flashing of this system LED?
the DC is pretty far from my office...all i have is an ssh access into the server.

i have tried to troubleshoot using this basic commands , yet i couldn't find any faults nor error message...am i missing more things here?

#ioscan -fnC disk
#ioscan -funC fc
#vmstat
#iostat

I still have no idea as how to check for power/DIMM/cpu related message/errors like "prtdiag/psrinfo" in solaris

please help...:frowning:

I would suggest a visit to the HP website with model numbers to look at the hardware manual.
If the specific model is equipped with dual power supplies it is possible that this is the indication that one has failed.

thx for the reply...i checked the manual for my server in question here "ia64 hp server rx2660" ..but i can't get much info for the hp-ux commands that should be used to diagnose errors... :frowning: :frowning:

The meanings of the flashing LEDs and the names of the log files for any errors that are generated can be found with a google search for the HP manual using the search terms "rx2660 flashing led".

the flashing light typically means that there was a hardware alert, sometimes i have seen software cause them, anyway, you need to get into the MP (or ILO in your case) -- you can get to it via console access or if web/telnet/ssh (requires ~$500 license), then you need to press [ctrl]-b (if it is at the command prompt), otherwise, you may need to login to the MP.

The default username/password (available publically from HP documentation) is admin/admin -- it may have been changed... you will need to talk to someone at your organization.

from there you need to look at the system logs, (SL) then look at the event logs (E) that will not only stop the blinking amber LED and tell you what the issue/error is.
