System hanged. help required.

HI,

I have a Fedora running box. I am not able to ping/login. I guess it got hanged.

Can any one help me how to login to that box with out restart?

Do you have physical access to the machine?

yes ,, i hav,,

What is on the screen?

Can you get a console login?

If you can only see an X login,

(a) can you move the mouse?

(b) can you login?

(c) can you switch to a console screen?

Is the console screen frozen?

Does pressing return reprint the prompt?

Initially keyboard, mouse are not connected. Now I connected those two. I did'nt find any responce from keyboard[leds of caplock, num lock are not glowing]. When I move mouse also its not responding.

I am not able to switch the consoles also.

what to do now? Remote login is also not possible, because i am not able to ping.

Replugging in PS/2 devices is not always successful. Do you have USB keyboard and mouse?

This is, of course, the time you wished you had enabled getty on a serial port.

I connected usb mouse, its led is glowing.but not ps2 key board.
But when I connect the same key board to other working machine , its working.
currently i dont hav usb key board, i can try with it later.

OK,, for suppose If we have USB key board, nd notthing is working,, any solution?
plz suggest some thing ..

I tried with usb keyboard too. No luck.

Can u suggest me,, some other way plz?

What about the monitor? What does it show? Is this system a production box? Is the application that runs on it responding? If yes, let it run, take a downtime after informing the necessary people then reboot it. Try to save the system core (I am not sure how you would do this on linux). If not, reboot it rightaway, save core again. After the system comes up, try to analyse the corefile to determine what went wrong.
