SunFire V250 sound

Hello everyone,
I faced with SunFire V250 the other days and was surprised with how much it makes a noise. It makes a noise comparable with a vacuum cleaner.
I've never heard before how noisy V250 just out of box (brand new), though.
Perhaps someone knows if there's an option to decrease cooling (fans) performance?
Another idea try to find out which of fans is already dying.

A "V250 just out of box (brand new)", do you mean that? Where has it been for the last 20 years?

I believe the Sunfire V250 went EOL in 2006.

It is a server => loud.
It is a Sun Microsystems machine => loud.
It is a Sun server ...

Which OS do you run on it?
In Solaris 10 you can have some luck with studying
man pmconfig
Lower power consumption can lead to a lower fan speed.

You haven't understood my thought correctly.
That V250 I faced is filthy old and noisy guy.

yes, It runs Solaris 10.
However, I am not going to use this machine as a server or whatever.
Simple I don't want it sounding as a vacuum cleaner.
I am almost sure both CPU heatsink fans are dead.
Other two case exhaust fans are probably also dead.
That's a reason of roaring.

Perhaps you would need a screwdriver and air compressor.

Open the box and clean it up, remove CPU vent and passive cooling component and clean it of excessive dust.
Clean old thermal paste residue and apply new (just a drop!).
Fit everything back in.

Remove power supply and blow them out using compressor.

Care of static electricity when handling.

This should hopefully help lower the noise.

Hope that helps
Regards
Peasant.
