Hi everybody, my name is Giulia and for me is the fist time in this forum, i hope write in the correct section for my problem.

I have a sun solaris server e250 enterprise with sun 5 versionof O.S.
Now i wont format all and install new version of solaris, but i don't know the actual corrent version for my server.

In the server i have only a cdroom and not a dvd rom. I try to download from oracle site the follow version:
sol-11-1111-text-sparc.iso, but when inseret the cd and type:
stop+a boot cdrom the system restart but thesystem tell me:" attention the version is not correct".
Can you post the link at the correct version? and maybe the easy tutorial?

Thanks for attention and good day everybody:wall:

Solaris

Hello

Sorry but your e250 wont be supported with Solaris 11. Your e250 has a processor type which is likely to only be supported up to Solaris 10. Download Solaris 10 from Oracle, burn to CD and you should be fine.

Best of luck

Tanks for info.
Another think :in. My server. Have a cd Rom is possibile Put a DVD Rom? If the machine Is a pc there isn't problem but with solaris......... i ask thath becouse Solaris 10 is a DVD and not a cd...... In my plan i need the machine for a nfs service.... With linux is easy (modifay exports file) but with solaris ? Can you help me ?

Assuming you're on Solaris 10 - /etc/dfs/dfstab is the Solaris version of /etc/exports. Other than that, I think it works very similarly to linux.

Problem:
The CD of SUN is a SCSI interface......, mi new dvd has a IDE interface....... is possible install using a USB pen? In this case, can you help me to type the command?....

Thanks

I'm guessing you could probably not boot from usb on that system. The Sun USB-FAQ states:

Sparc systems with USB 2.0 support can boot from USB disks if the OBP(Open Boot Prom) is upgraded to version 4.27 or later. Before you can boot Solaris from USB disk, you have to install Solaris on the disk first. Installing on USB memory sticks is not recommended as the number of writes to these sticks is limited.

If you have another sun box, you could always set up a jumpstart server and install over the network...

I see now in my server there isn't a USB port

Can you help me to do a installetion over network? What i need? Another solaris machine?

Thanks for help and good day
