sun server connection

Hi,
i'm really sorry to disturb you all, but i do need assistance. i am supposed to get a sun server up and running, and i dont have the slightest idea what to do. This is my first time with a sun server.

On the rack, there is an e4500, d1000, 2 a5200's . there is also a netra t 1400, but its not connected to power yet so i can leave that one out .
Pls could you tell me what to do and how to go about it?
How do i even enter the server, or connect to it ?

Thank you so much .

Welcome to Solaris!

Start by searching SMI's document site for admin manuals for each system Sun Microsystems Documentation

insert the installation cd/dvd into the drive, poweron the system, from the ok> prompt, type "boot cdrom". There you go thru the installation process. Gd luck!

thanks a lot! that was very helpful.
i have another problem though, i dont have the root password for the server, and one of the disks is bad...
i'm using a hyperterminl to connect.
i have this message on my screen:

Type control-d to proceed with normal startup
(or give root password for system maintenance):
i have tried the control d, but its not working. how do i get to the # or ok prompt from here so i can re install the OS.
thank you
