Static IP Address setup for vm as well as the host system

Hello,

Greetings!!

I have a server with 3 TB of disk space and 12 GB RAM and a i7 processor.
What I did thus far is to install Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL 5.7)as the host system and install Oracle Virtual box and created 3 VM's. Installed OEL 5.7 on one of the VM, working on installing Sun Solaris 10 and the last one reserved for Windows XP with the latest SP. Eventually want to install oracle databases on all the VM's and the host OS. Before I go there I will upgrade my memory to 24 GB for sure. My question is how do I setup the static IP address both for the host OS as well as the guest OS's this includes the Windows XP VM as well. Any help in this regard is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ram.

Oracle is not supported on Virtual Box, and it may not work properly, but you can sure try.

If you would like them to all be on the same subnet, then you need to make sure that you set your ethernet adapter (possibly eth0, or some other adapter you have configured) to bridged mode.

Then you can configure the IP addresses to exist as if it were a real machine.

I would suggest you change the driver type in the advanced tab from the Desktop Gigabit adapter to the T or MT server adapter type of intel gigabit emulation.

I would also make sure to use a better chipset driver and emulate a SAS controller for the disks, rather than SATA controller.

Also make sure that your system's BIOS is configured for intel virtualization extensions.

That being said, you should probably not run them all simultaneously or it will be entirely too slow. You are likely looking at the tests for this running significantly slower than you expect. I would suggest you try faster spinning drives, or SSD for your tests.
