SSH and It's usage

Hi ,

I was going through a script and I saw following commands :--

OPTS="-e /usr/local/bin/ssh -ralpgHSvuz --stats --rsync-path=/usr/local/bin/rsync"

OPTS="-e /usr/local/bin/ssh -vrlopgt --stats --rsync-path=/usr/local/bin/rsync"

Can someone please explain the meaning of words marked in RED ?

Thanks,
Abhay

These are options for rsync, checking the manual...

           -r, --recursive             recurse into directories
           -a, --archive archive mode; equals -rlptgoD (no -H,-A,-X)
           -l, --links copy symlinks as symlinks
           -o, --owner preserve owner (super-user only)
           -p, --perms                 preserve permissions
           -g, --group                 preserve group
           -a, --archive archive mode; equals -rlptgoD (no -H,-A,-X)
           -H, --hard-links            preserve hard links
           -S, --sparse handle sparse files efficiently
           -t, --times                 preserve modification times
           -v, --verbose               increase verbosity
           -u, --update skip files that are newer on the receiver
           -z, --compress compress file data during the transfer
               --stats                 give some file-transfer stats

While they do look like incantations fit to summon the Deep Ones, they're not actually words: They're short-options (-r -a -l -p) squished together (-ralp).

They're not ssh options, either. I think they're options for rsync.

$ man rsync

They really need more vowels in that... The best rearrangement I could come up with was -vulgar -pHSz

Thank you
