[Solved] root cannot login

Dear all,

cannot login to a HP unix server using root as well as other logins.

Even root also cannot enter. It seems that they have changed some permissions in /

Any way of recovering the system or getting logged in .

How are you trying to log in to the server? Through ssh? You might want to look at sshd configuration file in that case. What error message do you get while trying to log in? Need more info to help you.

I get access denied when I login using putty.

Do you have some kind of console (ILO) for that machine ?
Have you tried ftp or telnet as well ?

Obvious things first

  • you haven`t changed your windows keyboard locales recently
  • sure you have access denied instead of connection timeout ( is ssh working? )
  • what about console access is it possible there?

thanks for ur reply..

we are going through ILO only in single user mode. I find that ssh is not running. Is there any way of enabling ssh and see it.

I have solved it by manually changing the permissions and ownerships of all the libraries which were wrongly done.
