Solaris Live Media x86 Install

Unix Buddies

Burned download to DVD-R.

Booted it.

It dropped me at a command line.

Is it working properly?

Thanks!

That's what a livecd is for, no? To boot an in-memory (live) OS from CD/DVD.

Well, for 1.1 gigs of download I was expecting a desktop.

How do you install a desktop from here please?

Solaris

This is Solaris x86, yes?

What version? Solaris 11.1, 11.3 or what?

When you say it drops you to a command line, like what? What's the last thing it outputs?

And, no, it doesn't sound right to me.

Oh and if you're seeing:

 solaris console login:

as the last thing output don't be tempted to mess with it. Keep your fingers out and let it run.

Yes, that's what I'm seeing.

What do I do now?

It's current version off of Oracle website.

It sounds like what you need to do is nothing at all.

Try it again and don't touch it at all when it gets to that point. Does it go further? Or get stuck? Give it some time. It takes a while.

Report back.

Does the machine have at least 4GB RAM?

Hicks

It goes through a countdown by 5's.

Drops me at copyright notice not login screen like you showed.

Repeat, how much memory does the machine have? I've seen issues when booting a system with less than 4GB RAM.

Do you have another system (with 4GB RAM) that you can boot the DVD on just to test the DVD? It won't damage any pre-existing installed O/S if you just shutdown afterwards.

And if you don't touch it when it gets to the Copyright notice does it eventually continue?
