What type of patches will non-subscription users miss?
Bug fixes which don't involve security and also patches that add new functionality. Sun makes security patches available for free to everybody, but if it doesn't involve security you need to have a support contract.
i think you will get the recommended&security cluster patch everytime but if you want just one product based patch you will have to get a support contract. its nearly the same like nowadays... you don't see every bug-release and bug-solve, and some patches are also not free... could be something like if the patch will bring some new features new performance or something like that
