SNMP Walk need to enable

We are using a third party to monitor unix servers performance since last 60 days, since last 3 days we are not able to get the performance alarms on our tool.

When we check the same with the tool team, they said "SNMP walk is not happening for all the servers."

Performance we mean "CPU, Memory, Disk utilization and critical process cum services."

Please guide quickly, its very critical.

Thanks in advance.

You need to give us a bit more to go on first:-

 • What have you tried so far?
 • What OS and version are you using?
 • How is the tool supposed to work (cron scheduled with email alerts perhaps?)
 • Is the performance data being collected?
 • Have you have a boot recently and it's stopped working from then?

Most importantly, what have you tried?

Hi rbatte1,

Thanks for your reply.

What have you tried so far?

We tried by restarting the SNMP service on hp-ux server.

What OS and version are you using?

hp-ux 11.31 & tool installed on windows 2008 32 Bit.

How is the tool supposed to work (cron scheduled with email alerts perhaps?)

As per the tool team, from tool server they access unix server via SNMP

Is the performance data being collected?

Performance was collected by the tool since April 1st week, for the last 3 days tool is not collecting the performance.

Have you have a boot recently and it's stopped working from then?

No we have not restarted either unix server or tool server, only SNMP service we restarted

Install another SNMPwalk tool (there are lots of free ones available) and try manually to walk the HP-UX MIBs.

Hi Friends,

Note the update by the tool team, after a full day diagnose yesterday. Please help me out.

Post our analysis today we have noticed that the SNMP Walk is not happening from sapphire. To explain the technical details of what happens in the background:

Through SNMP walk we try to fetch the data by passing the OID which should be present on the target machine. However we were not be find the OID on that machine owing to which we were getting the error "No such object available on this agent at this OID".

The same things has been observed on all other (HP UX) machines. We tried to validate by doing snmp walk through third party software, but we got the same response. Please find attached screen shot for reference.

The configuration of the SNMP in the target device is outside our scope.

Please be informed that the below mentioned are enabled in target machines:

 1. HP UNIX MIB
 2. IF MIB
 3. IP MIB

Then it would seem that the MIBs on your HP-UX systems do not support this OID. Either HP-UX never supported that OID or something changed on your HP-UX systems.

What is the OID(s) that you are having trouble with?

Hi fpmurphy,

But last 60 days tool was monitoring the CPU, Memory and Disk load without any issue, since last 1 week the mentioned problem persist.

On the same tool, other 9 windows and 1 linux monitoring don't have any issue.

Its quite critical please support as.

Then something changed either on your monitoring tool or on the HP-UX system. If you can manually walk your MIB(s) on HP-UX and no longer can find an OID that was apparently previously present (according to you), then it would appear that something has changed on the HP-UX system.

You need to revisit your HP-UX system and figure out what changed. We cannot do that for you.

You need to help us with a bit more diagnosis as requested. You might get away with taking your car to the garage and saying "It's not working" but they can at least get hands on and look around to see what they can find.

If members ask for information, it is in an effort to help. Just saying "It used to work" doesn't really help us. Software will continue to run unless:-

 • It is designed to complete a process and stop
 • It encounters an unexpected condition and aborts
 • There has been a hardware failure that cripples the server or the OS is shutdown
 • The software is requested to stop or processes killed off.
 • Something has changed on either client or server
 • The software has a licence that has expired (especially evaluation software)
• Not necessarily an exhaustive list
Which fits you?

Being "quite critical" doesn't mean we can help you any more. We will do our best, but if you need more, you would be better contacting the supplier. They may have warranty support, subscription support or consultancy and various levels of payment. We're free and are trying to help and we all learn together as we help & explore.

On the same network we have a another server, in which we tried the SNMP walk and found success.

After updating some patched provided by tool provider, we are able to get the SNMP walk from our tool installed server.

Thanks a ton for all your valuable reply.
