snmp urgent help please?

Hi everybody;
i have boring problem with testing of the snmp in SunOS 5.9 system, such that, i added read-community line
as public in the /etc/snmp/conf/snmpd.conf file
and
# ps -ef | grep -i sn
root 490 1 0 Sep 08 ? 0:02 /usr/local/sbin/snmpd
,then i did
/usr/local/sbin/snmpd stop, /usr/local/sbin/snmpd start .Lastly,
in the /etc/init.d/ directory there is no snmpd deamon but i think it must be, question: how can i be sure that snmp is running correctly.
i have used snmpcheck but it gave error so;
how can i test snmp?
should i use smtpget command ?

i need your valuable :o help pls.
Best Regards.
