Shell scripting

Hi, if in a network there are lots of PCs connected with either windows or linux as operating system. Then what will be the shell script for the same and also if the PC has linux in it then we have to find if it is occupied or unoccupied.
If the PC has windows in it then we have to find if it is shutdown or working.
please help somebody need it urgently

Your question is not very clear.

You have a heterogenous network - windows & linux. Yes?

What is you want to do exactly? XP or Windows 7?
What linux are you running?

it is a heterogeneous network.and it is windows xp and linux is red hat

and what i want exactly a bourne shell script that when executed prints out a list of ulab workstations, indicating those that are booted into linux and are unoccupied, those that are booted into linux but are occupied, those that are booted into windows, those that are shutdown .and i am running a red hat linux and windows are xp

plz reply anyone need it's solution urgently
