Server to laptop ping is not possible but revese is possible

Hi gurus

I am facing one problem where, when I directly connect the server with any laptop/desktop on any NIC port present on the server and try to ping from server to laptop, it will not ping but reverse is possible means when I try to ping from laptop to server which is possible. I am sure that nic port setting at TCP/IP level at laptop/destop level are correct

Please let me know where can be the problem at server level.

Make sure no firewall software is running in your laptop

I always make sure while connecting my laptop to server that firewall must be disable on that laptop.

By "directly connect" do you mean as jacking the CAT5 cable into both the laptop and the server? Or is there any other networking hardware involved? Also what are the IP, submask and routing settings on both sides?
