how to change screen resolution in CDE prompt
Either:
$ fbconfig -propt
or
$ fbconfig -prconf
(can't remember whic!) will show you what the card and monitor will support and what the monitor's preferred resolution is.
An example is:
$ fbconfig -res 1280x1024x75
Log off and back on again.
where 1280x1024 is the resolution and the x75 is the refresh rate.
