SCO Openserver 5 root password and disk full

Hi,

We have an old SCO Openserver 5.0.7 server that I have inherited that currently has two issues that we are trying to resolve.

  1. We do not know the root password. I have contacted the old admin, looked for rescue disk and documentation but there appears to be nothing.

I have tried to perform the steps at aplawence.com/unixart/lost_root_password.html and have been able to create a an install floppy disk. Once loaded I enter tools and get back to the installation script by pressing F8 to escape to shell but when trying to mount the disk I can perform the first step of "mknod /dev/hd0root b 1 24" but when I try and mount the disk I keep getting "mount: Bad Address"

I have also tried /dev/root and /dev/root1. Also fsck is not recognised.

  1. The root volume is also now full and I don't know if this is affecting our ability to mount the volume.

Any help appreciated as I'm not that proficient with SCO and seem to have come to a dead end.

Do you know if the device driver for the disk controller is on the boot floppy disk?
