SCO Open Server

Hi,

Completely new to UNIX - so be gentle

Cut a long story short, we have a micros 8700 system (eclipse) that needs the Micros 8700 software installed.

The system needs UNIX and I have downloaded and successfully installed SCO open Server 6 and can log into root e.t.c.

Now I have the 8700 CD, ready to be installed - but how do I get UNIX to boot the CD, and how do I get a some sort of desktop up from the command prompt

Like I say I am completely new to this - so be gentle:)

Kenny

Most software designed for SCO systems installs through a program called custom.
The easiest way to access custom is through scoadmin.
Start scoadmin by typing it at the # prompt, or click system administration in the gui login.
If the software does not install through custom, then there should be a "quick start" guide to installation.

hi thanks for reply,

I have been able to log into scoadmin - thanks

making some progress on mounting the CD, will post of screenshots of error I am getting over the weekend - thanks

There should not be a problem mounting the cd, custom takes care of that.
Just put the cd in the drive, start scoadmin.
Select Software Manager
Select Install New
Select from "here"
Continue
Select media CD-ROM
Continue
If you get error messages trying to read cd, then, assuming there is not a physical problem with the media, the likelihood is that the software is not installed through custom.
The files on the cd should be of the format VOL.000.000, you should be able to see the contents of the cd by mounting it in a Windows PC.

Hi JGT,

I have followed everything you say, error message when reading the cd.rom is now unrecognised distribution format??

The contents of the cd are in the correct format

I now think I need interbase kit... is this correct??

Can you post the contents of the cd, showing file name, date, size
This version of unix is generally referred to a Unix System V release 6.0.0

the contents of the unix file that I loaded onto the system or the contents of the 8700 software that I am trying to load onto unix??

thanks

kenny

Directory listing of the contents of the 8700 software cd.

Changing to 5.0.7 will probably not make a difference. The only changes to custom occurred at 5.0.4.
Can you expand the listing in unix1.jpg to show the contents of the unix folder.

Jack

Now the contents of the SCO folder.
