school unix

i have really no administrative privileges at my school
how can i add my self to passwd and create a root account?

I might have misunderstood your question, but You dont have to create a root account. There is one by default on every system.

If you don't have privileges, you can't grant them to yourself. Someone has to do it for you who has root access.

Hey, if you want to grant yourself the root access, you just have to change the root password.
Your administrators probably disabled root user, cuz if anyone went on root user, that person can do anything they please quite easily, for example, completely deleting the administrator account.
There is a way of changing the root password and enabling it, even if you don't have any privileges, but I'm not going to tell any of you. :stuck_out_tongue:
I'm not going to post information that you'll use to crack the school server and wreck havoc with.

Oh, and the administrator has a way of checking if anyone has cracked into the server.
Your administrator probably has ARD (Apple Remote Desktop) 2. ARD can track anybody, I think even the root user's screen and lock it. If you've get locked, simply shut down and run away as far as you can.

That's all I'm going to give to any of you

Ah.. ya see, I can get an admin account, but I doubt that its legal to tell anyone here*, especially since you aren't supposed to be using that account, so I'll keep my mouth shut until further notice. ^_-

*Let alone doing it

Edit: Beaten by a while... >_>

You think its ilegal to say it, and probably it is, although you can tell us what we CANNOT do to get that password :), and thats very legal, isnt it? Im not so interested in getting passwords, in fact i know only two people that use mac os ( i live in Spain, Europe  ), but id like to know how to protect my system, you know...

read macx os x the missing manule

I would like to remind everyone that we have some rules. I am glad to see that folks are respecting rule 11. But with respect to rule 3, I see some opportunities for improvement. Nothing useful is happening here, so I will close the thread.
