root password

Hi everybody:
I have a problem. How does it possible that when I type the root password on terminal, later write:

su
password: ******

System recognize the password, but when a I use the GUI environment, the system does not recognize it.

Any suggestion. :o

Do you mean xlogin or xterm?

Are you doing su in all cases?

Also many systems won't let you login as root if you are not on the system console.

Yes, I did. I did in both xlogin like xterm.
Do you kwon any solution?. Because I would like to install or better said, detect LAN and shared printers in local net, and I preffer do it GUI environment.
