Restore AIX

Suppose this situation.
Old AIX 7.1:i have full backups made with cpio, one for usr,one for var,one for etc,one for home, etc
New AIX 7.1:i have new disks(larger) is possible to restore
cpio archives without problems?
Or i will have problem with odm,lv information stored, etc?

This may work with a big lot of hand work on your part and - no offense - you don't come across like the person able to do it. Even if successful you will never be sure to have covered all the necessary parts and to have a reliable system.

If you want a system backup then use "mksysb"! This is a system backup, complete with all the boot code, etc., necessary to start the system once it is restored. What you say you have are archives of files, but no system backup.

I hope this helps.

Perfect,thanks

As bakunin said, mksysb is a great tool to restore an AIX system. You can mix mksysb and a nim server as explain here Script to make mksysb backup from NIM to LPAR | loveforunix

Try to put on weekly crontab on NIM server if needed.

A question
Which storage do you have? Does it support snapshots? If you do, just map the newset snapshot to your host on the storage system and voila!

Hopes it helps.
