Resize root partition

I have SCO Openserver 5.0.5

Root partition is 96% full and I would like to make it bigger. How can this be done?

1) Can I use 'dd' to backup 'root' and then backup '/u' to a third hard disk, then divvy the primary hard disk to have a larger 'root' filesystem (i.e. previous root + u)

2) Restore root backup via 'dd'

3) Add 2nd hard disk and divvy for 'u', Restore 'u' via 'dd' command

Download and install http://microlite.com
you will need about 5mb free disk space in the root partition.
You can run it as a full function demo for 60 days.
Run a backup to tape
Create the emergency boot diskettes
Install a new disk.
Boot from the Microlite diskette(s)
Run fdisk and divvy.
Restore from tape
The whole process is menu driven, and you still have your original disk.

Q1- When I install the new disk, do I remove the original disk?

Q2- Once the new disk is installed in the machine, do I need to install Openserver on it, or just boot from Microlite diskette(s) and restore from tape?

Thanks!

  1. Remove the original disk, and install the new disk with the same scsi id.

  2. The diskette contains fdisk, divvy and a restore program. Once you have finished the restore, the disk will be fully functional, The only difference between the new disk and the old is the size of the partitions.

I see Backupedge version 02.03.01 for download in a demo folder. Is this the version to use?

Our server runs SCO Openserver 5.0.5
