Removing Faulty Disk SSA

Hi Experts,

I have configured A D40 Array. There is an faulty disk which is not part of an raid volume but shows fault in the diagnostics.

pdisk15 U0.1-P1-I1/Q1-W40AA83CC2400D
SSA160 Physical Disk Drive ( MB)

Is there a way to stop this error reporting for this particular disk only.
Is putting service mode for this particular disk will break the loop.
I believe the storage is working on a single loop. I understand that its not a good configuration, but thats how it was designed.
This particular disk is not part of any volume, Is replacing this disk with an filler will break the loop and spoil the volumes.

Thanks,
Vuppala

If you worry because of the breaking of the loop: that is not a problem. The loop makes sure each disk can be reached via two ways: any point in a circle can be reached from any other point in the circle clockwise and counter-clockwise, yes?

That means: if you break the loop to replace the disk (regardless of the replacement being a filler or another disk) you can do so and the other disks will still be accessible. Only when another connection breaks at the same time some disks would become inaccessible. This risk is - for the purpose of replacing the disk - admissible/negligible.

I hope this helps.

Hi Bakunin,

Thanks for the advice and I will try to follow the procedure.
