regarding sun solaris hardware

hi :),

i am new to this forum and i am in need of some help. one of my friend i having a Sun Ultra 2 UPA/Sbus (UltraSPARC-II 296Mhz) 640 MB ram. i am not sure if that configuration will be helpful to try out some sysadmin commands. this machine has a 21-inch monster monitor, which i think would consume lots of power. will this kind of machine be compatible with the new LCD monitors. will someone let me know what price can we pay for such a system.

thanks

Hi,

this sun server is really very old, support is dead since 10 years :-(.
The system will not start with new monitors or solaris versions.
To train solaris take a standard x86 pc and take solaris for x86.

and maybe you can use virtualbox and run a virtual mashine of solaris. it's easier than to use this old hardware...

Will i be able install Solaris x86 on a VMWARE using a laptop which is running windows vista ? if it is possible please provide me a link which proivdes the steps to do it ?

thanks

the purpose of vmware or virtualbox is just that... run a guest os on a host os. and it's realy easy to do it. just give it a try...

what if you want to purchase such a dead system, what would you like to pay for sun ultra 2 ultraSPARC-II 296 Mhz.
