Reducing threads on T5140

Hi All,

We have a T5140 server which has 128 threads in total. Is it possible to reduce the number of threads per core through some configuration changes? I am sorry for being so naive but I am one on this.

Why would I like to do this? Unfortunately we have this for an Oracle Database Server and it is giving terrible performance. We have an M Series in production and have excellent performance there. So was just wondering if it is possible to reduce the number of threads like in M series to improve some performance

reducing the threads will not help to speed up performance... the T series server are slow in single threaded performance. the M series is much faster in single threaded tasks then a T server. you might have the wrong server for your kind of workload.

however, you can reduce the threads used for a certain process with "projects". have a look here:

Thank you !!! I will go through the link. Will creating processor set and binding processes to it help in any extent?

It wouldn't help in the OP case but note this is no more true with the last generation (SPARC T4) ones.

yes, the new T4 are really fast... just played with a T4-2 the other day and was impressed! but as you say, it wouldn't help in the OP case!

can anybody tell me
Threads per Core (Virtual CPUs per Core) for T5140

The T5140 is using UltraSPARC t2 plus CPUs which have 8 threads per core: https://blogs.oracle.com/timc/entry/comparing\_the\_ultrasparc\_t2_plus
