raidctl performance issues

using the internal 2 drives mirror was created using raidctl on 100's of our servers . sometime when one drive fails we dont face any issue & we replace the drive with out any problem . but sometimes when one drive fails , system becomes unresponsive and doesnot allow us to login , the only way to fix this is reboot the box & replace the faulty drive . downtime due to rebooting is too expensive for us . is anyone facing similar issues ? am i missing any patches or fixes related to raidctl ? .

also on few systems , the drives are in bay 0 & 1 , but raidctl O/P says it is in bay 1 & 2 .. why is that ?

Controller: 1
Volume:c1t0d0
Disk: 0.1.0
Disk: 0.2.0

Thx

Why is that so? Definitely the systems you have at large are of different models and architecture.
You must check if there's any firmware bug with with and if your's is updated to the latest.
Slot 0 and slot 1 can be used for the OS disks.you can even RAID slot 0 with 2 or 3. It doesn't really matter as long as you raidctl the correct controller/target

And how do you usually confirm if a drive fails, in a h/w raid?
