Problems during booting from mirror disk

Hi All,

I have detached a mirror and primary disk from my Solaris box.

On trying to boot from Primary disk, It boots up good.

But from my mirror disk, it is not booting and giving me the login prompt

Instead it goes to maintenance state by issuing a coredump.

Can you explain why this happens.

Also with out rectifying mirror , i cant go fo installing in boot ( primary )

is it sparc or x86 solaris?

and it's mirrored with slvm? can you post the configuration and how you've done the setup?

I have detached

metadetach d10 d12
metadetach d20 d22

Not it is not booting from mirror.

maybe the bootsector is missing on the mirror disk... have you run "installboot" for the / slice on the mirror disk? the setup looks ok for me and without knowing exactly what you've done it won't be easy to find an error...

Hi Duke,

On booting the primary disk,
i am getting the login prompt and entered it.

But on the same case with mirror , i dont get the login prompt.
I have not done any thing wih primary as of now.

But i have installed patches in primary disk.

is it advisable to do install boot in mirror and the attach the primary with the mirror.

Pl advise.

  1. install your system
  2. patch the system
  3. follow the howto in the wiki link from my last post an do the mirror setup
  4. let the mirror sync
  5. don't break the mirror, just try to boot from mirror from "ok" prompt

thats how i do my installations...
