I have a sun ultra enterprise 450 server. This server powers on and a white screen appears with the system and network information.
But it doesnot boot up completely. Booting operation wil be halted by a warning:
\usr\sbin\fsck not found. Most likely the mount of \usr failed or the \usr filesystem is badly damaged. The system is being halted. Either reinstall the system or boot with the -b option in an attempt to recover.
I am new to this solaris and server world and i dont have any idea what that means.
However i started the boot with -b option and the following appeared:
INIT: Cannot create /var/adm/utmp or /var/adm/utmpx
I thought of reinstalling the OS from the cdrom. I took a solaris 10 sparc OS cd for installation. (is that right?)
did you try the <ok# boot cdrom -s > option ?
then if the system is coming up simply runa fsck for the damaged filesystems
like fsck /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s4 whatever your /usr might be
CD-ROMs are available on solaris 10. You can download the trial version of Solaris 10 onto CD-ROMS but you'll need six of CD-RW 4x 700MB 80min. Try installing Solaris 10.
The E450 server which I have has a DVD drive, and I am using a DVD to boot.
I checked the alias name for the device. Its correct.
Now I am seeing new messages when i give 'boot cdrom' in ok prompt:
Can't open disk label package. Bad magic number in disk label.
along with the error can't open boot device.
