probe-scsi-all hangs - not returning anything

HI

I have a V240 server and the probe-scsi-all on the Ok prompt is taking forever.

I have tried powercycling the server multiple times.

also tried set-defaults and reset-all..

COuld anyone tell the solution to this.. I have run out of options now.

Following is the only thing that i see

{1} ok probe-scsi-all
/pci@1d,700000/SUNW,qlc@1,1
*************************** Local Loop Devices ***************************
Adapter loopId - 0
Device AL-PA 1 loopId 7d Hard-addr 0 Port WWN 100000e002236d82

first of all try to remove the external storage and after that rerun the "probe-scsi-all" command. if this works, we've to search the problem at the external storage...

Hi Duke

After removing the FC cable probe-scsi-all works fine...
But I when i connect it back the same problem again.

so you should check your external storage and the cables to the server... looks like the loop is not closed properly...

Could you explain what exactly is loop closing or open??

Hit the "esc" key then it should move on to the next device. Hopefully that will work.

I seen this a lot when I was a FE.

thnx for all the help...

Here is how I resolved the problem of course with Duke's help:b:....hope it helps if someone faces the same issue...

the server was connected to an emc storage and a tape library both through FC...

First i removed both of them and ran probe-scsi-all... it worked fine...
Then i connected the emc storage and again ran probe-scsi-all..worked fine...
Next connected the tape library and ran probe-scsi-all...problem a plenty..stuck again...

SO i disconnected the tape library and rebooted it..
Powered off the server , connected the tape library..
powered on, went to OK prompt and ran probe-scsi-all... a
And everything started working was it shud be :)..

Thanks

nice work!
