results of lpstat -t ?
printer accepting and enabled ?

You can test the hardware portion by dumping data directly. Something like:
cat /etc/default/tar > /dev/port

Dear Team,

sco open unix ----- version 5.0.5
user ------ root
printer type(LQ 1050 dmp) ------ parellel

result of lpstat -t

Sheduler is running
system default destination rrr
device for rrr: /dev/lp1
rrr accepting for rrr since Thu April 02:15:28 2009
printer rrr waiting for auto retry available
stoped with printer fault
rrr 18 root 119 April 02:15:20 2009

printer accepting and enable -----yes

Printer and cable tested on another machine?

Can you reboot machine and try the direct dump again ?

Dear sir

machine has already reboot many times

printer & printer port already tested in windows xp,
gett perfect printing in win xp

thanks

Do you have the capability of booting into DOS? This would be to test the parallel port by doing a type filename > prn to test the combination of port, cable, and printer.

During boot does the printer do anything. IIRC there is something dumped to the port, possibly a carriage return.

Any problems showing in /usr/adm/messages ? This is a hardware record of things found during boot, with the last one being the latest boot.

Other than checking for something being set incorrectly in the BIOS I would remove the printer and parallel port, reboot, and reinstall. I've run out of ideas.

printer also check in this mode

  1. while booting just press "print screen" button , print out getting
  2. in windows xp taken some print out from ms word
  3. also taken printout in command prompt by typing dir>prn , print out gettting
4 printer parraell cable also replaced,

still printing not getting under unix

i think my hard ware is ok ,there is some problem is unix

i have not very good exposer in unix

thanks

After rereading the thread and thinking about the problem, the printer fault is probably the key to the issue.

What model are you using?

Is there any difference in lpstat -t if you take the printer off line and bring it back on line.

There are some potential issues with permissions. IIRC there have been issues when the permissions were not 777. But that may be faulty memory as I haven't had a printer problem in the OS in years.
