Ports 40000-41000

Hi,

We have ports 40000-41000 open on our firewall. Are these ports used for anything important? I ask because I would like to close them if they are not needed by any important service.

Are these port open from the inside or the outside?

Some of these are use by the Ganglia monitoring service and / or Globus Toolkit, if I correctly recall.

Can you enable packet counting on this port range? Look for only incoming packets with SYN. That will give you some idea if they are actually used.
